The Back of the Book: A 31-Day Guide

Immanuel:  God With Us seeks to bring God into the very heart of this season of preparation.  Just as God came to be with us in human form, so He comes to us today through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  He longs to have an impact on our lives and help us prepare others to meet Him too.  Here we realise that the Advent message is not just that Jesus came but that He comes and is coming again.

Advent calendars include pictures each day, and often chocolate as well.  Incorporated throughout this devotional guide are morsels of God’s Word for digestion, and images for reflection, as we consider different aspects of our lives and circumstances.

The material, which covers the whole of the month of December, can be used by individuals as a spiritual journey of preparation for Christmas, or as five sessions in an existing house group or special Advent group.  It does not require a lot of preparation by a leader!  To get most out of the material the members of the group should make a commitment to use the personal devotional material each day.

Why (and how) I got this book: I bought it at Pauline Books & Media, intending to use it in the run up to Christmas this year.  Unfortunately, events overtook me so I shall use it in 2010 instead.
